Alt und Jung in täglicher Harmonie. Sowohl das Eine als auch das Andere hat seine Vor-und Nachteile. Mein Passport hat als Vorteil das, was aktuelle Geräte überwiegend nicht mehr haben: Eine physische Tastatur. Diese Tastatur ist zudem noch kapazitiv, das bedeutet, sie hat ebenfalls die Wirkung eines Touchpads. (Das habe ich hier schon mehrfach beschrieben ). Von diesem Gerät komme ich einfach nicht los, weil es sich seit 8 Jahren zum echten Arbeitsgerät gemausert hat, auf das ich (trotz iPhone) nicht verzichten will. Die Werbung für die aktuellen Phones mag noch so krass und bunt sein: Ein ‚Klicki-bunti-feature-Hipster‘, der immer das Neueste haben muss, bin ich nicht. Obwohl: Die Ausnahme ist meine Smartwatch, die Ultra. Eine offensichtliche Ausnahme, zu der ich stehe, weil dieser kleine Computer am Handgelenk für mich die Funktion eines ‚Bodyguards‘ übernommen hat. Zugegeben… die vorherige, ‚einfache‘ Watch konnte das auch annähernd und zufriedenstellend, doch… die Robustheit und die weiteren, zusätzlichen Funktionen konnten mich überzeugen, und somit bin ich ein Fan dieses Teiles geworden.

Da sind sie nun in steter Eintracht nebeneinander abgebildet: Alt und Jung. Meine ‚Spezies‘. Ein Jedes hat seine ‚genialen‘ Vorteile für mich – rein pragmatisch. OK, ich bin ein designverliebter Zeitgenosse, dem das ‚Äußere‘ weitestgehend unwichtig ist (eigentlich ein W>iderspruch insich), doch… wenn Design und Funktionalität gepaart auftreten, dann bin ich ‚verloren‘. Die Ultra hat Zusatzfunktionen, die für mich persönlich eine wichtige oder beruhigende Wirkung erzielen, wie z.B. die Sirene, die man hoffentlich nicht aktivieren muss, im Notfall aber kann. Das ist es für einen Typen wie mich, der vor 14 Monaten nach einer ‚Not-Herz-OP‘ 10 Tage auf der Herz-Intensivstation verbringen durfte, ohne sich des Ausganges relativ sicher zu sein. Und nun? Ich habe mich wieder ‚berappelt‘ und kommuniziere händisch mit einem BB-Passport, dessen Software offiziell für tot erklärt wurde; für mich allerdings die aktuellen ‚auf-Glas-zu-tippenden-Geräte‘ alt aussehen lässt und mir das Gefühl gibt, nicht im Strom der umworbenen User mitschwimmen zu müssen. Ansichtssache? Richtig, wenn es Smartphones betrifft. Sinnvolles und individuell Nützliches sind altersunabhängig. Die Watch ist dafür ein deutliches Beispiel – die Kosten dafür müssten von den Krankenkassen für Leute mit gesundheitlich markanten Problemen übernommen werden. Was für eine Illusion….

The Ultra has add-on features that are important or reassuring to me personally, like the siren, which I hope you don’t have to activate, but can in an emergency. It is for a guy like me who 14 months ago was allowed to spend 10 days in the cardiac ICU after ‚emergency heart surgery‘ without being relatively sure of the outcome. And now? I’ve ‚recovered‘ and communicate manually with a BB-Passport, whose software has been officially declared dead; for me, however, it makes the current ‚on glass-to-typing devices‘ look old and gives me the feeling of not having to swim in the stream of courted users. Matter of opinion? That’s right, when it comes to smartphones. Meaningful and individually useful are age-independent. The Watch is a clear example of this – the cost of which would have to be covered by health insurance for people with significant health problems. What an illusion…

macOS Ventura Beta…

Wie schon öfter in der Vergangenheit teste ich (Apple©-User seit 1996) die öffentliche Beta des kommenden macOS- Betriebssystems, genannt ‚Ventura‘. Dieses Mal auch die IOS- und iPad OS-Versionen. Hier soll es nur im den Stagemanager gehen.

Am macOS Ventura interessierte mich ausschlaggebend der sogenannte ‚Stagemanager‘. Zusätzlich zum ‚Dock‘ und auch dem ‚Launchpad‘ soll damit die Übersichtlichkeit auf dem Display verbessert werden. Der Stagemanager blendet automatisch nur das Fenster der aktiven Datei/ des Programms ein.

Braucht man das? Jedenfalls sieht es erstmal gut aus und fühlt sich im Gebrauch auch so an. Im Prinzip ein schnelles Multitasking. Hier in WordPress ist das angenehm beim Browserwechsel zu meinem bevorzugten Wechsel zum DeepL-Übersetzer. Das geht flott und bleibt in der gesamten Anwendung übersichtlich – bereits in dieser Beta-Version. Allerdings funktioniert das nicht mit Microsoft Word, da hier das Menü ‚Ansicht‘ zu wählen ist oder bei einem Trackpad ein drei Finger-Wisch. Word öffnet jedes Fenster in einem eigenen ‚Space‘. Wie auf dem Screenshot zu sehen, sind die geöffneten Programme untereinander angeordnet und schnell auszuwählen. Das gewählte Fenster füllt dann den restlichen Bildschirm, sofern es nicht manuell begrenzt wird. Ideal ist da mein 24″- iMac-Bildschirm. Das Ganze ist auch möglich auf einem iPad – allerdings nicht auf dem Basismodell. Da muss es dann schon ein Air (?) oder ein Pro sein. Ja – und die sind richtig teuer und ob das dann auch sinnvoll auf kleineren Displays ist, wird wohl Geschmacksache sein.

Fazit: Mir gefällt der Stagemanager, obwohl ich sowas bis zu seiner Wahrnehmung gar nicht auf meinem ‚inneren Schirm hatte. PR – zack… und schon hängt man an der Leine, wenn man da nicht aufpasst…. Clever .. Apple©.

As often in the past, I (Apple© user since 1996) am testing the public beta of the upcoming macOS operating system, called ‚Ventura‘. This time also the IOS and iPad OS versions. Here it is only about the stage manager.

The so-called ‚Stagemanager“ was the main thing that interested me about macOS Ventura. In addition to the ‚Dock‘ and also the ‚Launchpad‘, this should improve the clarity on the display. The stage manager automatically shows only the window of the active file/program.

Do you need it? In any case, it looks good at first and also feels that way in use. Basically a fast multitasking. Here in WordPress, it’s nice when switching browsers to my favorite switch to the DeepL translator. It’s snappy and remains uncluttered throughout the application – even in this beta version. However, this doesn’t work with Microsoft Word, where you have to select the ‚View‘ menu, or with a trackpad, a three finger swipe. Word opens each window in its own ’space‘. As seen in the screenshot, the open programs are arranged one below the other and are quick to select. The selected window then fills the rest of the screen unless manually limited. My 24″ iMac screen is ideal for this. The whole thing is also possible on an iPad – but not on the basic model. It has to be an Air (?) or a Pro. Yes – and they are really expensive and whether that makes sense on smaller displays will probably be a matter of taste.

Conclusion: I like the stage manager, although I didn’t have anything like it on my ‚inner screen‘ until I noticed it. PR – bang… and you’re on a leash if you’re not careful…. Clever … Apple©.

Hier zeige ich mein Apple Powerbook G3 Pismo. Ich nenne das Prachtstück ‚Lady in Black‘. Es ist eine Würdigung der 22 Jahre langen Dienste, denn das ist ihr Alter. Ja, das ist Nachhaltigkeit pur und das Ergebnis liebevoller Pflege. Die geschwungenen Linien haben mich von Anfang an fasziniert. Dieses ist in einer Weise anwenderfreundlich, die nicht mehr existiert (jedenfalls nicht bei Apple). Zugänglich für technisch nahezu alle Bestandteile. Tastatur hochklappen und das Innere erlaubt den Wechsel der Platte, des Prozessors, RAM und so weiter….. Zwei seitliche Hebel schieben die Batterien links und rechts heraus – oder rechts ein DVD-Laufwerk für eben die zweite Batterie (die immer noch für gut eine Stunde gut ist !).Hot swappable! Wer einmal das Vergnügen hatte, auf der Tastatur zu tippen, der fragt sich, warum so etwas letztlich aussortiert wurde.

MacOS 10.4 Tiger erfüllt längst nicht mehr die erforderliche Sicherheit im Netz und ist (leider) mit Vorsicht zu genießen. Aber als Bürorechner‘ ist das Pismo die beste Sekretärin. Ich habe einen wirklich aktuellen Rechner, den Pismo nicht ersetzen kann – aber … das Teil hat auf mich eine magnetische Wirkung.

Das Powerbook ist der Beweis dafür, dass (nicht nur) solche Geräte reparatur- und damit anwenderfreundlich und nachhaltig hergestellt werden können – Apple hat es mit dem Powerbook G3 Pismo bewiesen.

Here I show my Apple Powerbook G3 Pismo. I call this beauty ‚Lady in Black‘. It’s a tribute to 22 years of service, because that’s its age. Yes, it’s pure sustainability and the result of loving care. The curved lines have intrigued me from the start. This is user-friendly in a way that no longer exists (at least not on Apple). Accessible to technically almost all components. Lift up the keyboard and the inside allows you to change the disk, processor, RAM and so on….. Two levers on the side slide out the battery on the left and right – or a DVD drive on the right for just the second battery (which is still good for a good hour !).Anyone who has had the pleasure of typing on the keyboard will wonder why such a thing was eventually sorted out.

MacOS 10.4 Tiger has long since failed to meet the required network security and should (unfortunately) be used with caution. But as an office computer‘ the Pismo is the best secretary. I have a really up-to-date computer that Pismo cannot replace – but … the thing has a magnetic effect on me.

The Powerbook is proof that (not only) such devices can be manufactured in a repair-friendly and thus user-friendly and thus sustainable way – Apple proved it with the Powerbook G3 Pismo.

Die Müllberge steigen und steigen. Die Ozeane sind gefüllt von Plastik. Die Rohstoffbeschaffung ist prekär usw.. Die Schattenseiten des Konsums. Alles bekannt und alles geht weiter, wie vorher. Gute Absichten bleiben Absichten. Diese Problematik wurde hier diverse Male thematisiert – bleibt aber zunehmend aktuell.

Eigenes Beispiel: Als Apple-User war ich verführt, eines dieser ultraschnellen Macbook pro M1 zu kaufen, obwohl mein Macbook pro 17″ aus dem Jahre 2010 noch einwandfrei läuft. Das 17er hatte ich schon auf 8 GB RAM und 1 TB SSD aufgerüstet und damit eine für meine Nutzung mehr als ausreichend schnellen Rechner. Der Gedanke an nachhaltiges Verhalten hat einen Kauf rigoros ausgeschlossen.

Nicht mehr der Neueste – aber immer noch schnell genug und sieht auch heute noch phantastisch aus.

Das einfach gegen ein ‚Schneller-Höher- Weiter‘ – Gerät auszutauschen, ist ein Frevel aus meiner Sicht. Abgesehen von dem Preis für ein MBP der neuesten Generation. Das wären dann ca. 3.000 € oder mehr. Also in jeder Hinsicht eine glatte Verschwendung sowohl geldlich als auch aus umwelttechnischer Sicht.

Die der Entscheidung zu Grunde liegende Überlegung und Frage war: ‚Brauche ich etwas, was ich schon habe, nur um aktuell zu sein?‘ Die Antwort konnte ich mir selber geben. Sie fiel im Sinne der Nachhaltigkeit aus. Ein kleiner, individueller Beitrag im Sinne dieses Planeten. Im großen Stil so gedacht, wäre nicht im Sinne der Hersteller – wohl aber im Sinne der folgenden Generationen, die sowieso einen traktierten und ausgebeuteten Planeten vorfinden werden. Deren Urteil über die vorangegangenen Generatonen wird fatal sein – mit Recht. Diese, meine Generation könnte durchaus entschieden für ein gewisses, angebrachtes Maß an Schadensbegrenzung sorgen. Zweifel daran sind sichtbar angebracht…

The mountains of garbage are rising and rising. The oceans are filled with plastic. The procurement of raw materials is precarious, etc.. The dark side of consumption. All known and everything continues as before. Good intentions remain intentions. This problem has been addressed here several times – but remains increasingly topical.

My own example: As an Apple user, I was tempted to buy one of these ultra-fast Macbook pro M1s, even though my Macbook pro 17″ from 2010 still runs flawlessly. I had already upgraded the 17 to 8 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD, making it a more than sufficiently fast machine for my use. The thought of sustainable behavior rigorously ruled out a purchase.

No longer the latest – but still fast enough and still looks fantastic.

To simply replace it with a ‚faster-higher-further‘ device is an outrage from my point of view. Apart from the price for a MBP of the latest generation. That would be about 3,000 € or more. So, in every respect, it’s a waste of money as well as from an environmental point of view.

The underlying consideration and question was: ‚Do I need something that I already have just to be up-to-date? It turned out in the sense of sustainability. A small, individual contribution in the sense of this planet. Thinking like this on a grand scale would not be in the sense of the manufacturers – but in the sense of the following generations, who will find a trafficked and exploited planet anyway. Their judgment about the preceding generations will be fatal – and rightly so. This, my generation could quite decidedly provide for a certain, appropriate measure of damage limitation. Sind das Herdplatten eines nunmehr veralteten Küchenherdes? Mitnichten … es sind die herausstehenden Objektive des neuen iPhone 13 pro. Dieser (mein) Screeshot veranlasste mich, eine solche Frage zu stellen.

Nun… ich will hier nichts veralbern oder abwerten, doch die perspektivische Ansicht der oberen Rückseite des genannten Smartphones erinnert mich tatsächlich an unseren bewährten Küchenherd. Dessen Alter wird dieses schön anzusehende Ensemble nicht erreichen. Es verdeutlicht allerdings den Schwerpunkt Apples auf die Kamera und nicht -wie ich uneingeschränkt vorziehe- auf die sogenannte Produktivität, sprich das Verfassen von Texten oder Erstellen von Tabellen, übersichtliche Ordnerstrukturen usw..

Wie hier im Blog mehrmals ausgeführt, verwende ich dafür meine Brombeeren (BlackBerrys) mit einer physischen Tastatur und dem aus meiner Sicht besten Betriebssystem für Smartphones, dem BB10, dem am 04.01.2022 das EOL (end of life) beschieden ist.

Die Mehrzahl der Smartphone-Nutzer weltweit legt halt den Schwerpunkt auf ‚ha-ha-hi-hi‘, also auf Spiele, Fotos, Messenger usw. und nicht auf sogenannte ‚Business-Funktionen‘. Arbeitsgeräte, wie die BlackBerrys mit einer physischen Tastatur, fallen dem allgemeinen Zeitgeist zum Opfer, weil sie nicht den Profit bringen, den die Geräte mit virtueller Tastatur unter Glas einfahren.

Nur… ist es Augenwischerei, zu fragen: ‚Wer schreibt schon gerne auf Glas?‘ Der Mainstream folgt den Herstellervorgaben, deren PR und regelrechter Zwangssuggestion des ‚Haben-wollens‘. Alles bekannt und … verdrängt und eben Ansichtssache.

Meine ‚altbackenen‘ Geräte erzeugen bei immer technisch aktuellen Zeitgenossinnen und Zeitgenossen ein bedauerndes Grinsen … und auch Kommentare, wie: ‚Das Teil sieht irgendwie doch geil aus‘ und ‚Kann man das noch kaufen?‘ . Dann werden die ‚Specs‘ erfragt und das Grinsen bleibt… Sehen sie mich dann mit meinem iPhone SE2 fotographieren, dann ziehen sich die Augenbrauhen von selbst etwas höher. Hmm… warum differenziert der da so?

Das perspektivische Rätsel bleibt eben doch ein Teilrätsel…

Are these hot plates of a now obsolete kitchen stove? Not at all … they are the protruding lenses of the new iPhone 13 pro. This (my) screeshot prompted me to ask such a question.

Well… I don’t want to make fun of or devalue anything here, but the perspective view of the upper back of the mentioned smartphone actually reminds me of our tried and tested kitchen stove. This nice-looking ensemble will not reach its age. However, it illustrates Apple’s focus on the camera and not – as I unreservedly prefer – on the so-called productivity, i.e. writing texts or creating tables, clear folder structures, and so on.

As stated here on the blog several times, I use my Blackberries (BlackBerrys) with a physical keyboard and what I consider to be the best operating system for smartphones, BB10, which is due for EOL (end of life) on 04/01/2022.

The majority of smartphone users worldwide focus on ‚ha-ha-hi-hi‘, i.e. games, photos, messenger, etc., and not on so-called ‚business functions‘. Work devices, such as BlackBerrys with a physical keyboard, are falling victim to the general zeitgeist because they do not bring in the profit that devices with a virtual keyboard under glass do.

Only… it is eyewash to ask: ‚Who likes to write on glass?‘ The mainstream follows the manufacturer’s specifications, their PR and downright compulsive suggestion of ‚wanting to have‘. All known and … repressed and a matter of opinion.

My ‚old-fashioned‘ devices generate a regretful grin among contemporaries who are always technically up-to-date … and also comments, like: ‚The part looks somehow nevertheless cool‘ and ‚Can one still buy this? Then the ’specs‘ are asked and the grin remains…. If they then see me with my iPhone SE2, photograph, then the eyebrows pull themselves a little higher. Hmm… why does he differentiate like that?

Es bezog sich auf die Steve Jobs‘ Frage: „Who needs a stylus?“ bei der Präsentation des ersten iPhones 2007.

Das war eine Anspielung auf das mit einem Stift zu bedienenden Message Pad mit dem Newton genannten Betriebssystem zehn Jahre zuvor. Hard- und Software, die ganze Plattform des Newton, wurde von Jobs endgültig eingestampft. Bei der besagten Präsentation tat er so, als sei das eine seiner eigenen Schöpfungen, dieses iPhone. Ohne Stift natürlich.

Und heute? Ja, heute gibt es den Apple Pencil ..

für die Touchscreens der iPhones und iPads. Da hat sich damals wohl jemand schwer getäuscht. Menschen haben zwar vornehmlich zehn Finger, doch schulisch lernen sie den Umgang mit einem Stift, egal welcher Art und nur gehalten mit den Fingern. Was der Apple-Guru erzieherisch versuchte, war nichts anderes als ein arroganter Versuch, Menschen über ihr anerzogenes Verhalten zu belehren – natürlich auch aus kommerziellen Gründen. Das Prägen einer von ihm vorgeführten Bedienweise eines Gerätes würde ewig auf ihn zurückzuführen sein. Was für ein täglich anzutreffender Unsinn….

Soviel zu : „Who needs a stylus?“ …

Ein erneutes ‚im Regen stehen‘ wie nach dem Einstampfen der Newton-Plattform erlebe ich aktuell mit dem BB10, dem Blackberry-eigenen Betriebssystem, als wäre das Eine eine Kopie des Anderen. Das ist kein ‚direkter‘ Fortschritt im Sinne der Nutzer, die ihre Geräte teuer bezahlt haben. Dafür gibt es realistischere Bezeichnungen.

Den Newton intensiver zu nutzen, ist keine Nostalgie, sondern neben der angenehmen Gewohnheit reiner Pragmatismus.

I am currently experiencing another ‚left out in the cold‘ like after the Newton platform’s demise with BB10, Blackberry’s own operating system, as if one is a copy of the other. This is not ‚direct‘ progress in the sense of the users who have paid dearly for their devices. There are more realistic terms for that.

Using the Newton more intensively is not nostalgia, but pure pragmatism in addition to pleasant habit.

Zur Langlebigkeit und Nachhaltigkeit von Produkten habe ich hier diverse Beiträge geschrieben. Ebenso habe ich mich hier diverse Male als Nutzer von Apple-Rechnern ‚geoutet‘. Das ich bei Apple gelandet bin, liegt an den absolut miesesten Erfahrungen mit Win 95 Mitte der 90er Jahre beruflich. (Totalabsturz und leere Sicherungsbänder trotz ‚gesichert‘-Anzeige. Ohne analoge Ablage wäre die Firma den Bach runtergegangen!). Danach wurde mir klar, dass zu meiner privaten Nutzung nie und nimmer ein Win-Betriebssystem in Frage kommt. Eine knallharte, individuelle und unauslöschbare Erfahrung. Ich wurde damals ein Apple-Nerd. –

Zudem habe ich schon vor über 20 Jahren Wert auf Nachhaltigkeit und Robustheit und –natürlich– Reparierbarkeit gelegt. Noch vor ca. 10 Jahren waren die Geräte noch einigermaßen zugänglich und vom Nutzer reparierbar. Nachhaltigkeit kann ich heute immer noch bestätigen .. doch Reparierbarkeit der heutigen Produkte? Fehlanzeige! Verklebte Akkus und SSD’s und so weiter sind die Folge von dünner, leichter …

Meine 11 Jahre alte ‚Kiste‘

Diesen Beitrag z.B. schreibe ich auf einem 11 Jahre alten MacBook Pro 17″, das ich noch aufschrauben und RAM, Batterie und Akku wechseln kann, wenn mir danach ist – und es war mir danach. Richtig …. das Gerät ist elf Jahre alt und sieht immer noch besser aus als so manches ‚Jahresgerät‘. Ebenso richtig ist, dass ich ein extremer Pedant bin, wenn es um Wertschätzung und entsprechende Behandlung der Geräte geht (egal welche); doch es beweist, dass Nachhaltigkeit praktikabel ist. Der Rechner war ein Rennpferd und ist es immer noch – auch ohne Retina-Display und ohne M1-Chip (Soc). Demnächst bei Bedarf noch die 500-er SSD gegen eine 1 TB-SSD austauschen und mein Rennpferd gehört immer noch zur Spitzenklasse. So gesehen, ist der folgende Screenshot von der Apple-Seite nicht so ganz aus der Luft gegriffen. Was mir immer noch fehlt, ist die Reparierbarkeit durch die Nutzer und die entsprechende Konstruktion der Geräte. Apple spricht von Langlebigkeit … das kann ich -wie beschrieben- bestätigen.

Tendenzen sind also erkennbar… Meine ‚Kiste‘ wird mich sicherlich noch lange ertragen und kann locker auf die haha-hihi – Funktionen des App-Wahns verzichten. Sie ist ein ‚tool – not a toy‘ …

I have written various articles here about the longevity and sustainability of products. I have also ‚outed‘ myself as a user of Apple computers here several times. That I ended up with Apple is due to the absolutely worst experiences with Win 95 in the mid-90s professionally. (Total crash and empty backup tapes despite ‚backed up‘ indication. Without analog storage the company would have gone down the drain!). After that it became clear to me that for my private use never and never a Win operating system comes into question. A tough, individual and indelible experience. I was an Apple nerd at that time. –

Moreover, more than 20 years ago, I already attached importance to sustainability and robustness and -of course- repairability. About 10 years ago, the devices were still somewhat accessible and repairable by the user. Today, I can still confirm sustainability … but reparability of today’s products? Missing! Stuck batteries and SSDs and so on are the result of thinner, lighter …

For example, I’m writing this post on an 11 year old MacBook Pro 17″ that I can still unscrew and change RAM, battery and battery if I feel like it – and I did feel like it. True …. the machine is eleven years old and still looks better than many a ‚year old‘ machine. Equally true is that I am an extreme stickler when it comes to appreciation and appropriate treatment of equipment (any equipment); but it proves that sustainability is practical. The computer was a racehorse and still is – even without Retina display and M1 chip (Soc). Soon, I will replace the 500 SSD with a 1 TB SSD and my racehorse will still belong to the top class. From this point of view, the following screenshots from the Apple site are not completely out of the air. What I still miss is the reparability by the users and the corresponding construction of the devices. Apple talks about longevity … I can confirm that -as described-.

So tendencies are recognizable… My ‚box‘ will certainly put up with me for a long time and can easily do without the haha-hihi – functions of the app craze. It is a ‚tool – not a toy‘ …

Eine umfassende Frage, die so allgemein nicht beantwortet werden kann|sollte, sofern es die ‚Apfel-Uhr‘ betrifft. Als Fan von mechanischen Uhren hatte ich bislang eine eindeutige Antwort: Nein. Für mich war eine Uhr ein Zeitmesser … und natürlich mit Komplikationen wie Datum, Stoppuhr, Tachymeter, Drehlünette usw.. und – mit Handaufzug. Vintage. Alle 4-5 Jahre eine Revision war für mich selbstverständlich. Ein Valjoux 72 – Laufwerk aus den Mitte 60-ern ist offensichtlich bei einer solchen Pflege nahezu unverwüstlich und immer noch extrem ganggenau. Also… wenn eine Quarzuhr für mich definitiv nicht in Frage kam; wozu dann eine Smartwatch?

Dann sah ich die Präsentation der Apple-Watch, Series 6, und… zumindest ein gewisses Maß an Interesse war da. Denn – als euphemistisch gesehen älterer Mensch sah ich Funktionen, die ich nur in Arztpraxen oder bei stationären Aufenthalten erlebte: EKG, Blutsauerstoffmessung, Herzfrequenz. Dazu die weiteren, für mich eigentlich zweitrangigen Funktionen wie Schrittzähler, Fitnesstracker usw..(gibt es ebenfalls von anderen Herstellern!). Jede Menge andere Funktionen, ob nützlich oder nicht, sahen alle recht interessant aus. Es war die ‚Health‘-app, die mich überzeugte. Keine Zettelwirtschaft oder Excel-Tabellen mehr, sondern alles zentral in einer Application (app) erfassbar und der Ärztin/dem Arzt digital überstellbar. Wenn solche Eindrücke reifen, dann ist das Gerät nicht mehr in weiter Ferne oder gar Tabu.

Fazit: Ich legte mir die besagte Uhr zu, richtete sie ein und begann die Erkundung. Als alter Apple-User (seit 1996) und technikaffiner Zeitgenosse fand ich mich schnell zurecht und kam eigentlich aus dem Staunen nicht mehr ‚raus. Die Schwachstelle neuer Tech-Gadgets ist eindeutig der Akku mit seiner (der Bauart dünner.. noch dünner gezollt) kurzen Laufzeit. Der Akku dieser Uhr hält bei mir ca. 1,5 bis 2 Tage. Geladen wird ohne Stecker ‚over the air‘. Einfacher geht es wohl kaum. Eine Gewöhnung an diese Uhr war für mich nicht von langer Dauer. Das geflochtene, sogenannte ‚Solo-Loop‘-(Stretch-) Armband vermittelte das Gefühl des Angenehmen. Die weiteren, technischen Spezifikationen sind der Apple-Seite zu entnehmen – natürlich, wie immer, von der absolut schönsten und einschmiegsamsten Art. Aus der Sicht merkwürdig… das Teil ist tatsächlich sehr angenehm zu tragen und missen möchte ich es nicht mehr. Zwei Dinge fehlen mir allerdings noch: Die Möglichkeiten, den Blutdruck und den Blutzucker zu messen. Das soll dem Vernehmen nach mit der übernächsten Version folgen.

Klarstellung: Das hier ist keine Werbung für ein Produkt, sondern eine rein subjektive Darstellung|Wahrnehmung. Natürlich gibt es von anderen Herstellern adäquate Produkte, die z.T. auch noch preislich attraktiver sind.

A comprehensive question that can|should not be answered so generally, as far as the ‚apple watch‘ is concerned. As a fan of mechanical watches, I had a clear answer so far: No. For me, a watch was a timepiece … and of course with complications like date, stopwatch, tachymeter, rotating bezel etc.. and – with manual winding. Vintage. Every 4-5 years a revision was natural for me. A Valjoux 72 – movement from the mid 60’s is obviously with such care almost indestructible and still extremely accurate. So… if a quartz watch was definitely out of the question for me; then why a smartwatch?

Then I saw the presentation of the Apple Watch, Series 6, and…. at least a certain amount of interest was there. Because – as a euphemistically older person, I saw functions that I only experienced in doctor’s offices or during inpatient stays: ECG, blood oxygen measurement, heart rate. In addition, the other, for me actually secondary functions such as pedometer, fitness tracker, etc..(there are also from other manufacturers!). Lots of other features, useful or not, all looked quite interesting. It was the ‚Health‘ app that won me over. No more paperwork or Excel spreadsheets, but everything can be recorded centrally in an application (app) and sent digitally to the doctor. When such impressions mature, the device is no longer a distant prospect or even taboo.

Conclusion: I bought the watch in question, set it up and started exploring. As an old Apple user (since 1996) and tech-savvy contemporary, I quickly found my way around and was actually amazed. The weak point of new tech gadgets is clearly the battery with its short runtime (due to the thinner… even thinner design). The battery of this watch lasts me about 1.5 to 2 days. It is charged ‚over the air‘ without a plug. It could hardly be simpler. Getting used to this watch was not of long duration for me. The braided, so-called ’solo loop‘ (stretch) bracelet gave the feeling of pleasantness. The other, technical specifications can be found on the Apple site – of course, as always, of the absolute most beautiful and cuddly kind. Strange from the point of view… the part is actually very comfortable to wear and I wouldn’t want to miss it anymore. Two things I’m still missing, though: the ability to measure blood pressure and blood sugar. This is supposed to follow with the next but one version.

Clarification: This is not an advertisement for a product, but a purely subjective representation/perception. Of course, there are adequate products from other manufacturers, some of which are even more attractively priced.

Gemeint ist in diesem Falle die Alternative zum Kauf eines ’neuen‘ Laptops (falls nötig), wie in diesem Beitrag ein Macbook von Apple©. Warum die Beschränkung auf Apple©? Deren Geräte verwende ich seit 1996, weil ich mich damals am Arbeitsplatz mit MS DOS und später dann mit der Weltseuche Windows 95 an den Grenzen meiner Erträglichkeiten befand, Wobei für mich DOS noch erträglicher war als ’95 (Wohl, weil ich die commands verinnerlicht hatte). Zehn oder mehr Abstürze am Tag waren zehn zuviel. Dann kam für mich privat das MacOS (7/8/9) und ich war endlich von den ganzen exe’n usw. befreit. Bis dahin hatte ich nur gebrauchte Geräte, weil die Dinger neu einfach zu teuer waren (und immer noch sind!). Das erste Neugerät war 1999 ein (teures) iBook G3 Blue. Apple© verdiente gut an mir, und ich war immer mehr als zufrieden. Ich war ein Apple©-Nerd.

Geräte wurden voll funktionsfähig verkauft und machten Platz für neue. Richtig … voll funktionsfähig. Die Folgebesitzer/innen erhielten gepflegte und damit mehr als brauchbare Geräte von mir. Die Vorstellung ließ mich vergleichen, nicht nur wieviel Geld ein Neugerät verschlang, sondern wieviel ‚Mehr‘ es brachte – Hard- und Software? Zumal das Umweltbewusstsein (Ausbeutung der Arbeitnehmerschaft in der Produktion und der Rohstoffe, Müllberge, Klima usw.) stieg und ich zunehmend realisierte, dass ich mich darin vermeidbar eingebunden sah. Also wurde nach meinem kaputten eMac mit Röhrenbildschirm Ausschau nach einem iMac Alu gehalten. In der Bucht (Ebay©) sah ich dann das Angebot eines neuwertigen Gerätes, das ich dann ersteigerte. Gebraucht und nicht neu! Die Zuverlässigkeit dieses gebrauchten Gerätes erfreut mich bis heute.

Neuwertige, gebrauchte Geräte haben es an sich, dass der Nächste keine direkte Nachproduktion erzeugt, weil das Gerät bereits im Umlauf ist. Der Zusammenhang faszinierte mich.

Mein MacBook Pro 17″

Diesen Beitrag schreibe ich z.B. auf meinem -gebraucht gekauften- geliebten MacBook Pro 17″ aus dem Jahre 2010, auf dem ich ‚Retina‘ und ‚Touchbar‘ nicht vermisse. Der Vorbesitzer war ein bekennender Pedant im Umgang mit dieser teuren Technik wie ich. Mit diesem Klapprechner habe ich einen wunderbaren 17″- Bildschirm mit einer Auflösung von 1920 x 1200 Pixel vor mir, der mir ein Desktopgefühl vermittelt – alles nur kompakter. Selber aufgerüstet auf 8 GB RAM und einer 500 GB-SSD ist diese Rennmaschine immer noch up-to-date und wird es bei mir auch noch solange sein, wie es geht.

Gebraucht und/oder refurbished (die Geräte werden von Spezialisten gereinigt, hochwertig wiederaufbereitet und umfangreich getestet) zu kaufen, bietet die Chance, Dinge, die nicht mehr produziert werden, doch noch zu ergattern. Gleichfalls ist es preisgünstiger und das ist nachhaltig das Wichtigste : Umweltschonend.

Wenn Apple© auf die nächste Billion an Wert zugeht, dann war mein Beitrag aus der zweiten Reihe. –

New or refurbished?…

What is meant in this case is the alternative to buying a ’new‘ laptop (if necessary), like in this article a Macbook from Apple©. Why the restriction to Apple©? I’ve been using Apple© since 1996, because I was at my workstation with MS DOS and later with the world epidemic Windows 95 at the limits of my bearability. DOS was even more bearable for me than ’95 (probably because I had internalized the commands). Ten or more crashes a day was ten too many. Then MacOS (7/8/9) came for me privately and I was finally freed from all the exe’n etc. Until then I only had used devices, because the new ones were just too expensive (and still are!). The first new device was an (expensive) iBook G3 Blue in 1999. Apple© earned well from me and I was always more than satisfied. I was an Apple© nerd.

Units were sold fully functional and made room for new ones. Correct … fully functional. The subsequent owners received well-kept and thus more than usable devices from me. The idea made me compare not only how much money a new device cost, but how much ‚more‘ it brought – hard- and software? Especially since the environmental awareness (exploitation of the workforce in production and raw materials, mountains of garbage, climate etc.) increased and I realized more and more that I was involved in it in an avoidable way. So, after my broken eMac with tube display, I was looking for an iMac Alu. In the bay (Ebay©) I saw the offer of a new device, which I bought at an auction. Used and not new! The reliability of this used device pleases me until today.

As good as new, used devices have it in itself that the next one does not produce a direct post-production, because the device is already in circulation. The context fascinated me.

I am writing this article for example on my beloved MacBook Pro 17″ from the year 2010, on which I don’t miss ‚Retina‘ and ‚Touchbar‘. The previous owner was an avowed pedant in handling this expensive technology like me. With this folding computer I have a wonderful 17″ screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels in front of me, which gives me a desktop feeling – all just more compact. Even upgraded to 8 GB RAM and a 500 GB SSD, this racing machine is still up-to-date and will be with me as long as it is possible.

Buying used and/or refurbished (the equipment is cleaned by specialists, reconditioned to a high standard and extensively tested) offers the chance to get hold of things that are no longer in production. It is also cheaper and this is the most important thing in the long run: environmentally friendly.

iMac-RAM nachrüsten… retrofit iMac RAM…

Die Anschaffung eines neuen iMac für meinen 2011-er ist passé. Das neun Jahre alte Gerät habe ich damals mit 8 GB (2x4GB)gekauft. Nun bekommt er, der iMac, das Doppelte – dachte ich. Also nahm ich aus dem linken Schacht die 2×4 GB heraus und setzte 2×8 GB rein. Nach dem Start erwartete ich natürlich 16 GB. Wie auf dem Screenshot zu sehen, sind es aber 20 GB. Zu den 16 GB sind noch die verbliebenen 4 GB aus dem rechten Schacht hinzuzurechnen – also 20 GB. Adam Riese lässt grüßen…

Weiterhin wäre noch eine Option möglich: Eine große SSD … mindestens 1 TB. So, wie mein iMac jetzt läuft, ist es noch nicht nötig, die 1 TB HD gegen eine entsprechende SSD zu tauschen. Denn – Neukauf erzeugt Neuproduktion. Das ist nicht in meinem Sinne.

Also Erweiterung statt Neukauf.

Mit der zu sehenden Konfiguration komme ich mehr als klar. Da ich mit der HD und dem ganzen System in erster Linie Office-Programme und eine gute Bildbearbeitung brauche, bin ich -aus meiner Sicht- noch für Jahre gut gerüstet.

Ob es ein Wermutstropfen ist, dass mit High Sierra ein nicht mehr zu aktualisierendes Betriebssystem installiert ist, kann ich ganz einfach beantworten: High Sierra erhält auch weiterhin (vielleicht Jahre?) Updates. Catalina, die aktuelle Version, geht schon nicht mehr, geschweige denn Big Sur. Auf meinem MB Air habe ich Catalina installiert. iTunes fällt weg usw.. IOS-Geräte werden im Finder angezeigt, worauf ich eigentlich gewartet habe. Feststellen konnte ich, dass mir das praktisch egal ist. Deswegen erweitere ich den alten Computerspruch ‚Never change a running system‘ mit ‚… ‚only if necessary‘.

Der Arbeitsaufwand für den RAM-Austausch war minimal und ist von nahezu Jedem, der mit einem passenden Kreuzschlitz -Schraubenzieher umgehen kann und kein Grobmotoriker ist, machbar. Danke an iFixit für die hervorragend bebilderte Anleitung.

Buying a new iMac for my 2011 is a thing of the past. I bought the nine year old device with 8 GB (2x4GB). Now he, the iMac, gets twice that – I thought. So I took the 2×4 GB out of the left slot and put 2×8 GB in. After the start I expected 16 GB of course. But as you can see on the screenshot, there are 20 GB. Another option would also be possible: a large SSD … at least 1 TB. With the way my iMac is running now, it’s not yet necessary to swap the 1TB HDD for a corresponding SSD. Because – new purchase creates new production. That is not in my sense.

I am more than happy with the configuration that can be seen. Since with the HDD and the whole system I primarily need office programs and a good image editing, I am – from my point of view – well prepared for years to come.

Whether it is a downer that High Sierra is an operating system that can no longer be updated, I can answer very simply: High Sierra will continue to receive updates (perhaps for years?). Catalina, the current version, is no longer available, let alone Big Sur. On my MB Air, I have installed Catalina. iTunes is no longer available, and so on. IOS devices are displayed in the Finder, what I was actually waiting for. I could see that I don’t care about that. Therefore I extend the old computer saying ‚Never change a running system‘ with ‚… … „only if necessary“.

The amount of work for RAM replacement was minimal and can be done by almost anyone who can handle a suitable Phillips screwdriver and is not a gross motorist. Thanks to iFixit for the excellent illustrated manual.

Apple weitet iPhone-Reparaturen aus…

Auch in Europa können sich ‚Nicht-Apple-Werkstätten‘ von Apple zertifizieren lassen und von einem von Apple zertifizierten Techniker iPhones nach der Garantiezeit reparieren lassen. Ein Techniker erhält nach einem kostenlosen Online-Test eine solche Berechtigung. In 32 Ländern Europas soll das möglich sein. Apple hatte sich bislang geweigert, Ersatzteile, Werkzeuge und Anleitungen bereitzustellen und war nur ‚Apple Authorized Service (AASP) erlaubt.

Das von iFixit geforderte Recht auf Reparatur fängt an, Früchte zu tragen. Noch an Bedingungen geknüpft.

In Deutschland gibt es nicht wenige Werkstätten, die iPhones nach der Garantiezeit reparieren. Nur… Apple beliefert|e sie eben nicht mit Ersatzteile, Werkzeuge usw..

Als Argument diente der Hinweis darauf, dass nur Fachpersonal eine fachgerechte Reparatur durchführen könne. Natürlich ist eine solche Argumentation nicht nur die Sorge um ‚den zufriedenen Kunden‘, sondern natürlich ‚den-Kunden-an-der-Leine‘ zu halten. Markenbindung also. Dass die Apple-Produkte seit 24 Jahren meine erste Wahl sind, habe ich hier schon diverse Male ausgebreitet. Auch, dass ich bei der Präsentation des ersten iPhones (2007) sehr interessiert daran war. Nur… gekauft habe ich dann doch keines, weil ich ein Zehn-Finger-Tipper bin und mir nicht vorstellen konnte oder auch wollte, auf Glas zu werkeln. Das Gefühl, etwas zu verpassen, kam einfach nicht auf.

Mit den Produkten, die meinen Vorstellungen von einer sinnvollen Bedienung eines handkleinen Gerätes entsprachen, begann dann mein Interesse an Smartphones. Das waren zuerest ein Blackberry Q10, dann das schwarze Blackberry Passport und dann das Passport SE, das heute mein uneingeschränkter Favorit ist. Ja .. und dann tatsächlich noch ein iPhone SE (1.Gen.), das größenmäßig meinem kleinen Q10 nahekam.

Alles schön und gut … Dass man als Blackberry-Nutzer schon belächelt wird, ist mehr als skurril. Es ist die Ironie des so vermeintlichen Fortschritts, dass arbeitstaugliche Geräte ohne ‚Hahahihi‘– Effekt nach und nach verschwinden werden. Wie sagte Jobs 2007: ‚Who needs a Stylus?‘ und verwies auf die Finger. Menschen haben aber gerne und sinnvollerweise Werkzeuge in der Hand, um damit etwas zu bewirken. Die nicht zu leugnende Erkenntnis führte in der ‚Nach-Jobs-Ära‘ dazu, dass es heutzutage den (teuren) Apple-Pencil gibt. As time goes by…

Der Firma Blackberry trauere ich keine Träne nach. Miserabler kann man kaum Kunden behandeln. Da wurden teure Geräte beworben und gekauft und dann? Ja, dann wurden die Kunden im Regen stehen gelassen, als sei das normal. Versprochene Updates kamen nicht mehr (bis heute für das BB10) und auch treue Kunden fühlten sich – regelrecht verarscht. Das war und ist nicht nur ein Gefühl. Das hat seine Parallelen mit dem Apple Newton PDA. Doch das war noch krasser!

Nichts gegen die iPhones – aber bis ca. 1600 € für ein Telefon, dessen ursprüngliche Funktion nur noch ein beiläufiges ‚Grundfeature‘ ist, ist für mich nicht diskutabel. Selbst ein iPhone SE 2 mit knapp 500 € in der Grundkonfiguration ist eine ‚ordentliche‘ Investition. Ähnlich teure Android-Geräte thematisiere ich hier gar nicht, weil mich die Plattform nicht interessiert und ich die nicht beurteilen kann und will. Das soll keine Diskriminierung sein. Ansichtssache eben… Das Folgende ist allerdings allgemeingültig:

Warum dieser Text? Das kann ich schnell auf den Punkt bringen: Liebe Zeitgenossen|innen; ist es denn zuviel verlangt, vor dem Kauf eines neuen Gerätes kurz oder etwas ausführlicher an den Zustand dieses, unseres gemeinsamen Planeten zu denken, dessen Ressourcen wir unnötig in einer Weise ausbeuten und zur Neige bringen, indem wir weiterhin dem ‚Schneller-Höher-Weiter‘ anhängen und uns so verhalten, als seien sie schier endlos? Ist es aus der Sicht wirklich nötig, ein Smartphone (oder ein anderes Gerät) nach ein oder zwei Jahren durch ein hochgepriesenes Folgemodell zu ersetzen? Fortschritt ist zweifellos gut – doch… der lässt sich auch mit Nachhaltigkeit kombinieren. Brauche ich ein neues Gerät, das eine halbe oder ganze Sekunde schneller arbeitet und ich damit dem Mainstream gerecht werde – weil ich damit modern und innovativ dem auf den Leim gehe, was mir die Fassadenturnerei der Werbung regelrecht aufdrängt und suggeriert, dass ich das brauche?

Das soll Jede|Jeder für sich entscheiden, sich aber nicht dann beschweren, wenn erkannt wird, dass man ‚Tauben in der Luft‘ nachgesprungen ist und sich bei der Landung ‚weh getan‘ hat. Warum nicht Reparatur oder Aufrüstung der Hard- und auch Software? Das geht natürlich hardwaremäßig nur, wenn Geräte anwenderfreundlich konstruiert und gefertigt werden. Keine verklebten Akkus und keine Schrauben, für die es keine Dreher gibt. Es ist doch akzeptabel, wenn ein Smartphone einen Millimeter dicker ist und z.B. der Akku einfach getauscht und gewechselt werden kann. Wäre das ein Rückschritt? Oder sogar ein Fortschritt? Ich denke – Letzteres.

Keiner… aber auch keiner überzeugt mich davon, dass ich meinen Verstand bei der Beurteilung des hier behandelten Themas dem ‚Zeitgeist‘ des fatalen Marketings unterwerfen sollte und das destruktive Profitdenken der Hersteller noch zu pudern. Die Designabteilungen und deren Instrukteure müssen umdenken. Fortschritt liegt in der Nachhaltigkeit und nicht in der Anwenderunfreundlichkeit der Produkte und deren Miniaturisierung auf Kosten des Gefühles, Geräte zu besitzen und zu bedienen, die immer weniger zugänglich und damit irreparabel sind.

Ein Gerät, das sich nicht öffnen lässt und|oder nicht (mit entsprechenden Kenntnissen oder Anleitungen) selber repariert werden kann, gehört dir nicht.

That Apple products have been my first choice for 24 years, I have spread out here several times. Also that I was very interested in them when I presented the first iPhone (2007). Just… I did not buy one because I am a ten-finger-tipper and could not imagine or did not want to work on glass. The feeling of missing something just didn’t come up.

My interest in smartphones began with products that met my ideas of how to use a small handheld device in a meaningful way. These were first a Blackberry Q10, then the black Blackberry Passport and then the Passport SE, which is my absolute favorite today. Yes … and then actually an iPhone SE (1st gen.), which in size was close to my little Q10.

All well and good… It’s more than just bizarre that people smile at you as a Blackberry user. It’s the irony of such supposed progress that workable devices without the ‚Hahahihi‘ effect will gradually disappear. As Jobs said in 2007: ‚Who needs a stylus?‘ and referred to the fingers. But people like to have tools in their hands to make a difference. This undeniable insight led to the (expensive) Apple pencil in the ‚post-Jobs era‘. As time goes by…

I don’t regret the Blackberry Company. It’s the worst way to treat customers. Expensive devices were advertised and bought and then? Yes, then customers were left out in the rain as if that was normal. Promised updates didn’t come anymore (until today for the BB10) and even loyal customers felt – downright fooled. That was and is not just a feeling. This has its parallels with the Apple Newton PDA. But that was even more blatant!

Nothing against the iPhones – but up to about 1600 € for a phone whose original function is only a casual ‚basic feature‘ is not debatable for me. Even an iPhone SE 2 with almost 500 € in the basic configuration is a ‚decent‘ investment. I won’t discuss similarly expensive Android devices here, because I’m not interested in the platform and I can’t and don’t want to judge it. This should not be a discrimination. It’s a matter of opinion… However, the following is generally valid:

Why this text? I can quickly get to the point: Dear Contemporaries; is it too much to ask before buying a new device to think briefly or in more detail about the state of this, our common planet, whose resources we are unnecessarily exploiting and running out by continuing to add to the ‚faster-upper-further‘ and behaving as if they were endless? Is it really necessary to replace a smartphone (or any other device) with a highly praised successor model after one or two years? Progress is certainly good – but… it can also be combined with sustainability. Do I need a new device that works half a second or even a second faster and that does justice to the mainstream – because I am using it in a modern and innovative way to address what the advertising façade gymnastics really forces on me and suggests that I need it?

Everyone should decide this for themselves, but should not complain if they realize that they have jumped after ‚pigeons in the air‘ and ‚hurt themselves‘ when landing. Why not repair or upgrade the hardware and software? Of course, in terms of hardware, this is only possible if devices are designed and manufactured in a user-friendly way. No stuck batteries and no screws for which there are no spinners. It is acceptable if a smartphone is one millimeter thicker and the battery can be easily replaced and exchanged. Would that be a step backwards? Or even progress? I think – the latter.

No one… but also nobody convinces me that I should subject my mind to the ‚Zeitgeist‘ of fatal marketing and to powder the destructive profit thinking of the manufacturers. The design departments and their instructors have to rethink. Progress lies in the sustainability and not in the user-friendliness of products and their miniaturisation at the expense of the feeling of owning and operating devices that are less and less accessible and therefore irreparable.

A device that cannot be opened and|or repaired by yourself (with appropriate knowledge or instructions) is not yours.

Kapazitive Tastatur von Apple ?

Apple will ein ‚uraltes‘ Patent neu erfinden und hat es als Patent angemeldet. Klingt nicht nur komisch – ist es aber. Das gehört wohl zur Philosophie des Unternehmens aus Cupertino (dessen Produkte in seit 1995 benutze), denn genau damit fing es eigentlich an, z.B. mit der Maus, die nicht Apples Erfindung war, sondern eine von Xerox und noch weiter vorher, in den 60er Jahren, vom Stanford Research Institute (SRI). Jobs war clever und beschuldigte später Gates, dass dieser Windows von MacOS abgekupfert hat. Und so weiter… Alles Vergangenheit…

Nun lese ich von der Anmeldung eines Patentes für eine sensitive Tastatur. Das zweiteilige Bedienkonzept -Tastatur/Trackpad- bei den MacBooks soll zu einer Bedieneinheit verschmolzen werden. D.h., das die Finger nicht mehr von der Tastatur zum Trackpad -oder umgekehrt- wechseln, sondern die Tastatur das Trackpad quasi beinhalten. Wischgesten auf der Tastatur. –

Also nichts Neues! Nur – modifiziert wird es zu einer neuen Erfindung und dann zu einem neuen Patent. Nach dem Newton vergingen zehn Jahre und beim iPad dreizehn Jahre und neue Geräte wurden aktualisiert und modifiziert aus dem Hut gezaubert. Wer sollte sich da noch an den Newton erinnern? Jobs verpöhnte einen Styles und heute – gibt es den Apple-Pencil.

Bei den iPhones und iPads vermisse ich den (Blackberry-) Hub, in dem alle Informationen zusammenlaufen und entsprechend chronologisch aufgelistet werden. Die Informationszentrale schlechthin! Und natürlich die blinkenden LEDs, die eingehende Informationen signalisieren. Und natürlich – die physische Tastatur, die gleichzeitig als Trackpad funktioniert , usw. usw… Wenn das alles Schnee von gestern ist, dann stellt sich die Frage, warum das nun wieder aktuell modifiziert als ‚Neu‘ verkauft werden soll und wird.

Auf dem ‚Alten‘ aufbauen, es verbessern und weiterentwickeln ist immer richtig. Es sollte nicht so getan werden, als ob das Rad wieder neu erfunden werden müsste. Alles PR? Was sonst! –

Damit ist mein 5 Jahre altes Blackberry Passport sogar seiner Zeit voraus. Etwas gemütlicher als mein iPhone – aber geschmeidiger im Bedienkonzept mit kapazitiver Tastatur …

Auch über so einen kleinen Beitrag zur Reduzierung der Elektroschrottberge freuen sich Umwelt und Klima.

This means that my 5 year old Blackberry Passport is even ahead of its time. Slightly more comfortable than my iPhone – but smoother in its operating concept with sensitive keyboard …

The environment and climate are also pleased about such a small contribution to reducing the mountains of electronic waste.

Einer Maschine zum Geburtstag zu gratulieren, ist tatsächlicher Unsinn. Mein hier bebildertes iBook ist mehr als nur eine ‚einfach nur schöne‘ Maschine – es ist wahrscheinlich unverwüstlich, braucht nicht einmal einen Lüfter und hat eine Tastatur, die noch heute zu bauen nicht mehr möglich zu sein scheint – und so weiter…

Ob ich in 20 Jahren das von meinem ‚Pro‘ und ‚Air‘ in ähnlicher Weise sagen kann, bezweifle ich. Hier mache ich jetzt keinen langen Text, denn die Specs sind im Netz nachzulesen. Das waren/sind immer noch keine ‚Mainstream-Rechner’… Alt und schön muss kein Widerspruch sein. Entschleunigung…
