Die Müllberge steigen und steigen. Die Ozeane sind gefüllt von Plastik. Die Rohstoffbeschaffung ist prekär usw.. Die Schattenseiten des Konsums. Alles bekannt und alles geht weiter, wie vorher. Gute Absichten bleiben Absichten. Diese Problematik wurde hier diverse Male thematisiert – bleibt aber zunehmend aktuell.
Eigenes Beispiel: Als Apple-User war ich verführt, eines dieser ultraschnellen Macbook pro M1 zu kaufen, obwohl mein Macbook pro 17″ aus dem Jahre 2010 noch einwandfrei läuft. Das 17er hatte ich schon auf 8 GB RAM und 1 TB SSD aufgerüstet und damit eine für meine Nutzung mehr als ausreichend schnellen Rechner. Der Gedanke an nachhaltiges Verhalten hat einen Kauf rigoros ausgeschlossen.
Nicht mehr der Neueste – aber immer noch schnell genug und sieht auch heute noch phantastisch aus.
Das einfach gegen ein ‚Schneller-Höher- Weiter‘ – Gerät auszutauschen, ist ein Frevel aus meiner Sicht. Abgesehen von dem Preis für ein MBP der neuesten Generation. Das wären dann ca. 3.000 € oder mehr. Also in jeder Hinsicht eine glatte Verschwendung sowohl geldlich als auch aus umwelttechnischer Sicht.
Die der Entscheidung zu Grunde liegende Überlegung und Frage war: ‚Brauche ich etwas, was ich schon habe, nur um aktuell zu sein?‘ Die Antwort konnte ich mir selber geben. Sie fiel im Sinne der Nachhaltigkeit aus. Ein kleiner, individueller Beitrag im Sinne dieses Planeten. Im großen Stil so gedacht, wäre nicht im Sinne der Hersteller – wohl aber im Sinne der folgenden Generationen, die sowieso einen traktierten und ausgebeuteten Planeten vorfinden werden. Deren Urteil über die vorangegangenen Generatonen wird fatal sein – mit Recht. Diese, meine Generation könnte durchaus entschieden für ein gewisses, angebrachtes Maß an Schadensbegrenzung sorgen. Zweifel daran sind sichtbar angebracht…

The mountains of garbage are rising and rising. The oceans are filled with plastic. The procurement of raw materials is precarious, etc.. The dark side of consumption. All known and everything continues as before. Good intentions remain intentions. This problem has been addressed here several times – but remains increasingly topical.
My own example: As an Apple user, I was tempted to buy one of these ultra-fast Macbook pro M1s, even though my Macbook pro 17″ from 2010 still runs flawlessly. I had already upgraded the 17 to 8 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD, making it a more than sufficiently fast machine for my use. The thought of sustainable behavior rigorously ruled out a purchase.
No longer the latest – but still fast enough and still looks fantastic.
To simply replace it with a ‚faster-higher-further‘ device is an outrage from my point of view. Apart from the price for a MBP of the latest generation. That would be about 3,000 € or more. So, in every respect, it’s a waste of money as well as from an environmental point of view.
The underlying consideration and question was: ‚Do I need something that I already have just to be up-to-date? It turned out in the sense of sustainability. A small, individual contribution in the sense of this planet. Thinking like this on a grand scale would not be in the sense of the manufacturers – but in the sense of the following generations, who will find a trafficked and exploited planet anyway. Their judgment about the preceding generations will be fatal – and rightly so. This, my generation could quite decidedly provide for a certain, appropriate measure of damage limitation. Doubts about it are visibly appropriate…
