EOL (End of life) der Blackberry Smartphones

In der Blog-Kategorie ‚Blackberry‘ habe ich mich hier über Jahre als Blackberry-Nutzer ‚geoutet‘ und immer wieder gesagt, dass ich die Geräte bis zum Zerfall der Hardware nutzen werde. Die Gründe dafür lagen sowohl in der physischen Tastatur als auch in dem -meiner Meinung nach- benutzerfreundlichsten Betriebssystem BB10. Da Blackberry zu Android wechselte, wäre für mich sowieso ein Markenwechsel fällig gewesen, da Android für mich definitiv nicht in Frage kommt. Mein Q10 (mit wechselbaren Akkus!) und mein Passport sind funktionsfähig wie am ersten Tag. Updates gab es seitens Blackberry schon seit Jahren nicht mehr. Als User blieb und bleibt man im Regen stehen. Shame on you – Blackberry. 

In Fachforen ist die Rede von ‚einen toten Gaul reitet man nicht mehr‘ oder ‚wir sind der Gardasee und die Anderen der Pazifik‘. Elitedenken. Als jahrelanger User fühle ich mich hintergangen und … ja – betrogen, weil Versprechungen auf updates für BB10 Tauben in der Luft waren. Die Unternehmenspolitik des Unternehmens aus Waterloo, Kanada, war undurchsichtig, perspektivenlos und den (treuen) Usern gegenüber eine regelrechte Frechheit. Doch… die Geräte liefen und laufen und laufen…

Nun verlängert TCL als Hersteller der ‚Blackdroiden‘ den Vertrag mit Blackberry nicht mehr. Das ist das Aus für Smartphones mit physischer Tastatur mit Blackberry-Logo. BB10 ist Vergangenheit und nun auch die Blackdroiden. Neue Smartphones mit physischer Tastatur wird es kurzfristig nicht mehr geben. Jedenfalls nicht mit dem Blackberry-Logo. Ob das Blackberry- eigene Betriebssystem BB10 irgendwann von irgendeinem Hersteller wieder aufgegriffen wird, fühlt sich an wie eine Seifenblase.

Es ist tatsächlich unfassbar, dass eine Geschäftsführung ihr Unternehmen dermaßen dilettantisch und offensichtlich geplant und verschlafen an die Wand fährt – ideenlos und immer noch davon ausgehend, ein maßgebliches (Unternehmen) zu sein. Die hohen Zeiten waren schon längst vorbei. Begriffen im Sinne von zeitlicher Anpassung wurde nicht viel und so wird nun versucht, auf dem Softwaremarkt zu punkten und mit Patentklagen Profit zu generieren. Die Nutzer der Phones wurden mit leeren Versprechungen hingehalten und hintergangen. Die Katze blieb im Sack. Der Hersteller TCL hat sie nun herausgelassen und klar denkende User wundert da gar nichts mehr.

Ich weine der Firma Blackberry keine Träne mehr nach, werde aber meine BB10-Phones weiterhin parallel nutzen und bin froh, für das auch noch überteuerte Blackberry K2 mit Android keine  600-soundso €  ausgegeben zu haben. Das lässt sich immer noch kaufen und wie war das vorher mit dem ‚toten Gaul…‘ ?

EOL (End of life) of Blackberry smartphones

In the blog category ‚Blackberry‘, I have ‚outed‘ myself as a Blackberry user for years and said again and again that I will use the devices until the hardware breaks down. The reasons for this were both the physical keyboard and – in my opinion – the most user-friendly operating system BB10. As Blackberry switched to Android, I would have had to change brands anyway, as Android is definitely out of the question for me. My Q10 (with replaceable batteries!) and my passport are as functional as on the first day. There have not been any updates from Blackberry for years. As a user, one remained and remains in the rain. Shame on you – Blackberry. 

In professional forums there is talk of ‚you don’t ride a dead horse anymore‘ or ‚we are Lake Garda and the others are the Pacific‘. Elitist thinking. As a user for years I feel betrayed and … yes – cheated, because there were promises of updates for BB10 pigeons in the air. The corporate policy of the company from Waterloo, Canada, was opaque, without prospects and a real cheek to the (loyal) users. But… the devices were running and running and running…

Now TCL, the manufacturer of the ‚Blackdroids‚, is not extending its contract with Blackberry. This is the end for smartphones with a physical keyboard with Blackberry logo. BB10 is a thing of the past and now also the Blackdroids. New smartphones with physical keyboard will not be available in the near future. At least not with the Blackberry logo. Whether the Blackberry-own operating system BB10 will be taken up again by any manufacturer sometime, feels like a soap bubble.

It’s really unbelievable that a company’s management is so amateurishly and obviously planned and overslept that they drive their company to the wall – unimaginatively and still assuming that they are a major player. The high times were long gone. Terms in the sense of temporal adjustment were not much and so now the attempt is made to score points on the software market and to generate profit with patent lawsuits. The users of the phones were held up and deceived with empty promises. The cat remained in the bag. The manufacturer TCL has now let it out and clear thinking users are no longer surprised.

I don’t cry any more tears for the Blackberry company, but I will continue to use my BB10 phones (parallel) and I am glad I didn’t spend 600-soundso € for the overpriced Blackberry K2 with Android. You can still buy it and how was it before with the ‚dead horse‘?
